MEDICAL MARIJUANA IN ARIZONA

Medical marijuana is legal for patients with a prescription from a licensed physician in Arizona.

Medical marijuana is being distributed through marijuana dispensaries. At the moment Arizona hosts more than a 100 dispensaries.

The qualifying conditions to become a medical marijuana patient in Arizona include:

• Alzheimer’s disease
• Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS)
• Cancer
• Crohn’s disease
• Glaucoma
• Hepatitis C
• HIV/AIDS
• Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD)

Any chronic or debilitating disease or treatment of diseases which produce one or more of the following:

• Cachexia (wasting syndrome)
• severe and chronic pain
• severe nausea
• seizures (including characteristic of epilepsy)
• persistent muscle spasms (including characteristic of multiple sclerosis)

RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA IN ARIZONA

The cultivation, sale, and possession of cannabis for recreational purposes are illegal in Arizona.

Although there are about 50,000 people participating in Arizona's medical marijuana program, possession of cannabis for recreational use is still considered to be highly illegal.

Getting caught with up to 2 lbs (900 grams) is a Class 6 felony and can lead to up to 1,5 years in jail and/or a fine up to $150,000.

An initiative for the legalization of marijuana for recreational adult use was on the November 2016 ballot. This initiative unfortunately did not pass. A similar initiative has already been filed for the November 2018 ballot.
