DJ is not short for disc jockey, like DJ’s that spin records in the club while going out, but are the initials for his government name: John Daniel. The ‘Short’ part is an ironical nickname like Little John; he is actually quite tall guy.
DJ Short studied cognitive psychology and biology and started growing sativas in the late 70’s. He wanted to cut short the flowering time and add an active buzz to the strains he was working with and started crossing with indicas and Afghani land races, giving birth to the famous Blue family of cannabis strains. This family of cannabis strains is hallmarked by soft flavours that tend to be fruity and sweet and flowers that tend to be blue or even purple towards the end of the flowering cycle.
In 2003 he published a book called ‘Cultivating Exceptional Cannabis: An Expert Breeder Shares His Secrets’ in which he explains what methods he uses to isolate different flavours and how to get your cannabis plants to display these properties. More recently DJ Short is also developing more CBD rich strains specifically for medicinal users of marijuana. His strains are not designed to give the highest yields or produce extremely high THC levels but they deliver a unique experience, both in taste and in effect.
