Why should you make weed chocolate-covered strawberries?

How to make cannabis chocolate-covered strawberries

Why not! Chocolate-covered strawberries are delicious, and infusing them with your favourite cannabinoids is a great way to take this mouth-watering snack to the next level. Remember that you can use whatever cannabis strain you want to infuse the chocolate covering for these strawberries, including THC and/or CBD-rich varieties.

Besides their delicious flavours, some other reasons to try cannabis chocolate-covered strawberries include:

  • Cannabis and chocolate go hand in hand. Studies have shown that cacao also contains cannabinoids, just like cannabis! By combining cannabis and chocolate, you can enhance the properties of both.
  • They're a natural aphrodisiac! Strawberries and chocolate are loved for their romantic appeal (even if there isn't much scientific research to show that they actually heighten libido). Cannabis, on the other hand, is highly regarded for its ability to increase sexual desire, so combine the three, and you're bound to be in for a good time!
  • They make a great gift! Got a special someone you want to dazzle? Weed chocolate-covered strawberries are a super romantic gift that's sure to wow them. Just make sure they invite you over when it's time to dig into them. PS: make sure to check out more cannabis-friendly gift ideas here.

Cooking with cannabis: what to consider

How to make cannabis chocolate-covered strawberries

Cooking with cannabis is great fun and fairly straightforward. Just remember to keep the following tips in mind:

  • Dosing is super important! Taking the time to determine how much weed goes into a recipe can make the difference between having the experience of a lifetime or greening out. Whenever you step into the canna-kitchen, make sure you take your time to double-check how much weed is going into your food.
  • Always decarb your weed before cooking it! Decarbing involves lightly toasting your cannabis flower before throwing it into the pot (pun intended). This helps to activate THC, CBD, and other cannabinoids to ensure your edibles have the desired effect.
  • Pick the right strain! Do you want to be flying high, melting into the couch, or completely lucid? There's no shortage of cannabis strains out there, all of which offer unique effects. When cooking with weed, make sure to pick a strain with the right effects!
  • Remember, fat is key! Most cannabinoids are fat soluble, so you'll need to use infused butter, oil, ghee, or any other kind of cooking fat to pack your meal with cannabinoids. Infused coconut oil is preferred by many canna-chefs because of its high concentrations of medium-chain fatty acids (which are easy for the body to absorb), but you can essentially infuse any type of cooking fat with cannabinoids.

Can you make chocolate strawberries the night before?

How to make cannabis chocolate-covered strawberries

Totally! It is even advisable to make chocolate-coated strawberries a few hours ahead of time to ensure the chocolate has enough time to set and harden. Once they're made, chocolate-covered weed strawberries can keep for as long as regular strawberries. While they'll be safe to eat as long as the strawberries aren't mouldy, we recommend eating them within 1–2 days after making them, while they're at their freshest.

How to make strawberries covered with weed chocolate

Now that we've covered the basics, here's how to make weed-infused chocolate-covered strawberries using cannabis coconut oil and a few other simple ingredients.

Ingredients

  • 20ml cannabis-infused coconut oil (more/less depending on how strong you want your berries)
  • 115g dark chocolate (we highly recommend 70% cacao dark chocolate, but milk chocolate works great too)
  • 24 large, fresh, ripe strawberries
  • 85g white chocolate

Note: In this recipe, we're double-dipping the strawberries in two types of chocolate (first white, then dark). Note that you can use any combination of chocolate to cover your strawberries—just remember that the better the quality of your chocolate, the tastier your finished berries!

Ingredients

Equipment

  • Large heatproof bowl (to fit over your pot)
  • Large pot (for boiling water)
  • Baking sheet lined with baking paper
  • Spatula

Directions

  1. Wash and dry your strawberries. Make sure to pat your berries dry with a paper towel—if they're wet, the chocolate covering won't stick to them properly. Also, make sure your strawberries aren't too cold, or they'll cool the melted chocolate as you're dunking them.
  2. Prepare your lined baking tray, which is where you'll place the strawberries after dunking them in the chocolate. Using baking paper to line the tray is important, as the strawberries will otherwise stick to the tray. Also, do not use foil to line the tray as it tears easily, leaving your strawberries coated in foil.
  3. Place a large bowl over a pot of boiling water. Add the white chocolate to the bowl and stir until fully melted. Turn off the heat under the pot, but keep the bowl placed above it to ensure the chocolate remains melted and easy to handle.
  4. Dunk the strawberries in the melted chocolate. Grab each berry gently by its stem and dunk it in the melted white chocolate to cover roughly two-thirds of the berry. Shake off any excess chocolate and set the berry down gently on the lined baking tray. Repeat until all of the berries have been covered with white chocolate, then refrigerate them for 45 minutes while you prepare your second layer of chocolate dip.
  5. Bring the water in the pot back to a boil (adding more water depending on how much evaporated during the last boil), and place your heatproof bowl on top of the pot (making sure to clean the bowl of any white chocolate remnants first). Add in the dark chocolate and infused cannabis oil, and stir until well combined and fully melted. Like in step #3, turn off the heat under the pot, but keep the bowl placed above it to ensure the chocolate stays melted.
  6. Dunk the refrigerated berries in the dark chocolate as you did in step #4. Place the covered berries back down on the lined baking tray and refrigerate for at least 4 hours to ensure the chocolate hardens and sets properly.
  7. Enjoy!
