While cannabis legalization is slowly going global and weed is becoming more mainstream, stoner movies as a genre has been expanding to with some new television series.
More and more productions are aiming at an audience that likes to kick back and binge watch TV shows while getting baked on the couch.
Some people might say that there can never be enough weed-related shows or movies produced and in the case of “Time Traveling Bong”, they might be right.
This mini-serie that features on Comedy Central is a creation of Ilana Glazer, Paul W. Downs and Lucia Aniello, the same group of people have been working together on a little show you might know as “Broad City”.
Ilana Glazer stars herself in this mini-serie, and plays Sharee, a funny, mouthy girl from New Jersey who lives with her cousin Jeff (played by Paul W. Downs).
In the first episode Sharee and Jeff happen to get their hands on a magic bong, that when used to smoke some weed, teleports them to other eras such as ancient Greece, the jurassic period and of course a hilarious version of the future.
While the series is evolving around a bong, it is clear that it is not only meant to be watched while high. Probably also non-smokers will be able to laugh about some of the stupid stuff that happens to the two.
The series is not all about the funny stuff, as it manages to touch some more serious topics such as slavery and feminism as well. But with a smart sense of humor, as we are used to from Glazer and Downs.
The series so far consists of just 3 episodes, which you can watch for free on Comedy Central, but hopefully they will use their bong to come back and make some more!
