Find out about the legal status of medical and recreational marijuana in the state of Kentucky. Is marijuana illegal? Better safe than sorry!

MEDICAL MARIJUANA IN KENTUCKY

Kentucky has outlawed almost every aspect of cannabis, exept for industrial hemp and CBD oil. Currently the only medical marijuana patients allowed to access (only) low-THC cannabidiol (CBD), are patients that are part of a clinical trial.

In other words; the production, sale and possession of any form of medicinal marijuana are illegal in Kentucky.

RECREATIONAL MARIJUANA IN KENTUCKY

The cultivation, sale, and possession of cannabis for recreational purposes are illegal in Kentucky.

Kentucky is not really a good place for cannabis users as there is no way you can get away with anything. Getting caught the first time, and with less than 8 oz (226 grams), will land you in jail for 45 days and get you a fine on top of up to $250.

Getting caught with more than that, or for a second time, will be seen as a felony and be treated the same way as selling cannabis. You might end up in jail for 1-5 years and get a nice fine of up to 10,000 on top.

We are not aware of any possible law changes in the (near) future in Kentucky regarding medical and/or recreational cannabis.
