The cultivation, sale, and possession of cannabis for recreational purposes are illegal in Vietnam.

The cultivation, sale, and possession of cannabis are illegal in Vietnam. However, cannabis is widely used amongst locals and very easy to find in most populated places. Most sources will tell you that the cops don’t bother anybody for smoking cannabis and in general don’t mind tourists toking up.

There are also stories about tourists getting into serious trouble with the law for possession of cannabis. It seems that authorities do sometimes decide to clamp down on tourists who are exploiting their freedom by consuming cannabis. So always be careful and discrete.

We are not aware of any possible law changes in the (near) future in Vietnam regarding medical and/or recreational cannabis.
